Lady Rams Headed to Greensboro to Face Rival Aggies in Season Finale

Nov. 12, 2007

GREENSBORO, NC - Fans can expect a fierce battle when the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (4-25) head to nearby Greensboro, NC to face the North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies (7-25, 5-3 MEAC) in the regular season finale for both teams, Tuesday evening. The two teams will be battling for local bragging rights when the two teams face in a battle of Piedmont Triad teams.

Though bragging rights will be on the line, the Lady Rams will also be battling to snap a nine-match losing streak and attempting to end a season of struggle on a high note. The Lady Rams will heading into the match seeking some much needed offense with sophomore hitter Annika Barnwell missing the last three matches of the season with an injury. The team has adjusted well with juniors Valentina Pushkina and Brandie Beane stepping up their efforts recently. Pushkina has stepped up the offense with 14 kills in her last two matches while Beane has switched from her normal duties as middle blocker to fill in as setter. The junior has totaled 30 assists in the last two matches.

Freshman hitter Ashley Harris will also be counted upon to give the team an offensive punch. Harris is the team's second biggest offensive threat with 206 kills, 19 fewer than Barnwell.

The win will be tough for the Lady Rams to get with the team facing a North Carolina A&T team that has secured second place in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division and has won three of their last six matches, falling to Campbell, North Carolina Central, and Florida A&M, all teams that have defeated the Lady Rams. They will have to contend with senior hitter Krystal Cooper, who leads the Lady Aggies with 308 kills this season.

The two teams are set for a 6:00 p.m. start at the Corbett Sports Center on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
