Lady Rams Power Through Rainy Conditions for Strong Performance at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams proved that it will take more than some wet weather to slow this team down. The Lady Rams posted some great times and some of the best finishes of the season under rainy conditions at the 2008 Duke Asics Invitational.

 

WSSU junior sprinter Wykeita Barnett continued her fantastic season finishing second in the women's 100m dash in a time of 12.19. Only .01 second separated first and second place in the event. She followed that great effort with a 10th place finish in the women's 200m dash with a time of 25.35.

 

Barnett led a group of Lady Rams sprinters with great times on Saturday as sophomore Kayla Long finished 15th in the women's 100m dash in a time of 12.59 and  freshman Allegra Seegars finished 17th in time of 12.66. Freshman Chantelle Bethea finished 22nd in the women's 200m dash with a time of 25.83 while Kayla Long finished 23rd with a 25.90 effort in the event.

 

WSSU senior Irene Jeptolo finished seventh in the women's 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:01.50. The finish marked the first time this season that the senior has not won the event.

 

The Lady Rams finished eighth in the women's 4x100m relay, posting a 49.04 on the clock in the event. The WSSU relay team returned in the 4x400m relay finishing ninth in a time of 4:05.96.

 

The team will have a chance to rest as they will next see action on April 18th a the International Friendship Games hosted by North Carolina A&T.
