Lady Rams to Host South Carolina State in Weekend Series

April 25, 2008

GAME PROGRAM

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (18-22) have won three of their last five games against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foes last weekend and will look to keep up their winning ways when they host the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs (6-21, 2-7 MEAC) in a three-game series this weekend. Unlike last weekend's opponents, Howard, Coppin State, and Morgan State, the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs are members of the MEAC Southern Division.

The Lady Rams exploded on offense last weekend, scoring 37 runs over the weekend, including scoring a season-high 20 runs in a shutout win over the Coppin State Lady Eagles. For the season, the Lady Rams have a team batting average of .305 and have scored 221 runs, 121 more runs than this weekend's opponent. Four Lady Ram batters are currently batting over .350 with freshman catcher Kayla Woodbury leading the way with a .427 batting average and 29 RBI. Junior outfielder Elyon Taylor's efforts this weekend catapulted her into the team's second highest batting average at .375.

Facing the Lady Rams will be a South Carolina State team that is coming off of a pair of wins over Norfolk State last weekend and are batting .263 with 100 runs scored. Senior infielder Tifanie Lewis leads the way for the Lady Bulldogs with a .351 batting average and 11 RBI this season. Her 11 RBI are second only to junior Yeshira Butler's 14 RBI on the team.

The Lady Rams and Lady Bulldogs will play Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The two teams will meet up once again for a noon single game on Sunday.
