Lady Rams Winless in Baker Games Play at Morgan State Classic

BALTIMORE, MD - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams bowling team showed some terrific heart in Baker games play at the Morgan State Classic in Baltimore, MD. The squad battled hard, but took losses to Arkansas State, Florida A&M, Wisconsin-Whitewater, New Jersey City State, and Coppin State.

 

Winston-Salem State head coach Michael Jackson was proud of his team's performance this weekend as the young squad competed with the nation's finest teams. "We had an impressive performance by our team this weekend. They all bowled above their averages," Jackson said Sunday evening. "We're seeing a lot of improvement by this team and we saw a lot of that improvement this weekend."

 

The Lady Rams played tough in Baker games, falling to Arkansas State (125-173, 182-186, 113-222, and 126-181). The team returned for close 0-4 loss to Florida A&M (220-176, 134-146, 149-188, and 156-155). The Lady Rams also took a loss to Wisconsin-Whitewater (163-136, 158-223, 144-168, and 168-205). The Lady Rams also fell to New Jersey City State, which finished in the tournament's top five (135-171, 123-206, 177-177, and 127-224). The Lady Rams finished the day taking on the Coppin State Eagles and taking a loss to their MEAC foe (107-144, 138-178, 145-141, and 186-172).

 

There 31 teams competing in the tournament with the teams split into divisions. The Lady Rams finished ninth in their division in total pinfalls for the tournament. Leading the way for the young Lady Rams was junior Lucy Graham, who posted a tournament average of 164.6 pins per game, including posting a pair of 190 games.

 

"The leadership for our young team is beginning to step up for the team," Jackson added. "Performances like we had this weekend show that we are doing things the right way and that we're headed in the right direction."

 

The Lady Rams will return wrap up the 2007-08 season when they head to Bessemer, AL to take part in a tournament hosted by Alabama A&M on Marc  1st and 2nd.
