Personal: Coach Carpenter is entering into his sixth year as a member of the WSSU golf coaching staff and first year as an assistant coach after serving as the Head Coach of the Winston-Salem State University golf program for five years....A fervent golfer with a deep-rooted passion for the game, he has been playing golf for more than 50 years...He fell in love with golf at a very early age when he was introduced to the game as a caddy at Hillcrest Golf Course...The profound interest in the game, sparked by his employment as a caddy, is what instilled in him the passion to become a golfer...Carpenter has played golf throughout the southeast as well as various regions of the United States and North America...Coach Carpenter is retired from the R.J. Reynolds Packaging company and is now employed at the Winston-Lake Golf Course...In addition to his role as Head Coach of the WSSU golf team, he helps with the Ernest Morris Jr. Golf Program as well as serving as the tournament director for the Winston-Lake Senior Golf Association for the past 15 years...He brings a wealth of golf knowledge and love for the game to the newly jump-started WSSU golf program...He and his wife, the former Peggy McIlwain, reside in Winston-Salem, NC.
