WSSU Department of Athletics Releases 2008 Football Schedule

Feb. 15, 2008

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem State University Director of Athletics, Dr. Chico Caldwell officially released the 2008 Ram football schedule on Friday morning with the highlight of the 11-game slate being WSSU's six home games to take place at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Rams will play a full compliment of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games with only two non-conference opponents gracing the schedule in longtime rival, North Carolina Central University (November 15) and HBCU independent, Savannah State University (September 13).

WSSU, who will enter into their fourth year of a five-year transition to the NCAA Division I level in the fall of 2008, will play nine MEAC contests highlighted by MEAC home games against Morgan State University (September 20), South Carolina State University (September 27), Howard University (October 4), Bethune-Cookman University (October 25) and Norfolk State University (November 22).

Head coach Kermit Blount and the Rams will face the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University for Homecoming 2008 on October 25 at 2:00 pm in Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC as they look to knock off another MEAC foe in what has traditionally become the biggest home game of the season.  The two teams have faced one another only four times in history with BCU holding the 3-1 series advantage.  WSSU defeated BCU last season in Daytona Beach, FL and the contest will mark the Wildcats second-ever trip to Winston-Salem.

Ram fans will benefit from four road games that will be played within easy driving distance from Winston-Salem, NC as WSSU will face North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC (September 6); Hampton University in Hampton, VA (November 1); Delaware State University in Dover, DE (November 8); and North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC (November 15) during the 2008 season.

The longest road trip of the season will come on October 11 as the Rams travel to Tallahassee, Florida to face the Rattlers of Florida A&M University.

"We are more than pleased to release the football schedule for the 2008 season and we are delighted to be able to give our fans a full compliment of games at Bowman Gray Stadium here in Winston-Salem.  The ability to play six home contests against elite-caliber opponents will truly give our fans what they have been looking for.  We are proud to have put the finishing touches on our Athletic Fieldhouse and with the addition of the video board in the North endzone with full instant replay and video capabilities we are truly looking forward to the excitement of the 2008 football season." WSSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Chico Caldwell said in interviews on Friday.
